What is Hacktoberfest?
Hacktoberfest is the easiest way to get into open source! Hacktoberfest is a month long festival of code that provides a large list of available open-source contribution opportunities for beginners (and more experienced coders)! Best of all, anyone across the globe can get a free t-shirt just for participating! There are currently over 9,000 contribution opportunities!!
The Quick Details:
- Hacktoberfest runs from October 1 st— October 31st.
- To get a free shirt, make 4 pull requests on any GitHub repository.
- Prior to making your pull requests, you must sign up on the official Hacktoberfest Website (link below).
- Hacktoberfest is open to programmers and developers across the globe!
How Do I Signup?
- First, make sure you’ve joined my once-weekly email list here, and followed me on Twitter. I’ll be sending out the best contribution opportunities and free swag all month long.
- Next, Signup for Hacktoberfest by connecting your GitHub account here.
- Finally, you can start looking for projects to contribute to. Search for issues labeled
hacktoberfest
then sort by your language/tech stack. Here’s a link to a sample search. You can use the Languages box on the right to narrow down your choices. For example, here’s a JavaScript Hacktoberfest search.
