This story began a long time ago. We, as humans, are great at inventing, producing, and using tools. While most people’s concept of early computers is from the 40s, the world’s oldest known analog computer was the Antikythera mechanism.
The Antikythera mechanism was an ancient Greek device designed to calculate astronomical positions. It was believed to have 37 gear wheels which allowed it to do basic math, follow the irregular orbit of the Moon, track the Sun and even predict eclipses decades in advance.
The mechanism was lost over 2,200 years ago at sea until its discovery in 1901. The knowledge of this device vanished completely from history during the age of late antiquity, the time between the collapse of Rome before the European Middles Ages.
