Life, our decisions craft how it flow. Time, so precious and very limited. We dream about getting a good job, a promotion or making a career move. But, do we work to reach those dreams? Many of us are afraid of failures. Afraid of leaving comfort zones around us. And our dreams are left as dreams forever.!

Failures are lessons for life. One must be determined to learn from failures, forget the bad and move on. On the other hand, success doesn’t come without commitments. But how to commit without knowing what to do? That’s why we must set goals and plan ahead to reach our dreams.

Few months back I wanted to change my job. Though I wanted this career move, I had no clue on what to do. I was waiting for a perfect time. But that time never came to me. Adding to this confusion, I was doing a part time master’s program. I had to complete the final thesis of it. I thought it as a risk to move from my comfort zone.

Somehow, I realized my mistake. We all get that strange occasion in which we realize we are wasting our time. A moment make us realize we have to do something. I realized that more I stayed in my job, more I lose the ability to improve. And when I fail to improve, I won’t be able to reach my dreams. If I want a change, I must work for it. If I want to improve, I must work to improve myself.

So, I defined three goals. To change the job, to finish the thesis and to publish research papers. I challenged myself to reach them all at once.

Two months fast forward, I succeeded reaching some of my goals. I got a good job offer and finished my thesis. And I am waiting for my paper acceptance notifications. I could have failed trying, but I was ready to embrace such failures. In my mind I knew what I was doing. A failed job interview would teach me how to prepare well for the next time. A failed thesis would let me try again with a fresh mind. If one conference reject my paper I will try for another, with improvements. I felt that I was controlling the flow of my life, I was utilizing my precious time to work on things that improve myself.

- Franklin D. Roosevelt

So, if you dream about doing something, start working now.! Today is the right day, now is the right time, don’t wait till tomorrow. More you delay your decisions, harder it makes you to take a step. We all have comfort zones around us. But to reach our dreams, we have to move away from them. Set few goals at once and plan your journey ahead. By setting goals,

You know what to expect
Do not let time decide how your life flow. When you work toward a goal, you know what you are doing, you know what to expect. Failure is one outcome but success is there to reach.

You are ready to embrace failures
Set goals in a way you can accept failures. Have several goals, realistic ones. For example, if you want a career move, apply for few good job openings. If you fail at one, you can be successful with another. Update your CV now polish your skills to face interviews. Plan ahead and start working soon. Learn from failures and correct yourself.

You use your limited time right
We all have limited time to live. Sometimes we wish to go back and correct our mistakes but we can’t do such thing. If you are happy about everything around you, great, enjoy that life. But if you are not and if you still dream about something, start working to reach those dreams. Miracles do happen but do not wait for them. Time is limited, use it correctly for the best.

One last thing, it is good to have goals and work towards them. But always try to balance your life (my thought’s on work life balance). Good health, happiness, family and relationships are essential for a good life. So have a balanced life. Good Luck with your future plans.!!
